Khedut Vedna Yatra (A footmarch to highlight farmers’ distress in Gujarat) entered its seventh day today.
Today the yatris – Sagar Rabari, Pinak Dhamelia and Rupesh Kumar – set off from Gondal after lunch. The night halt for tonight is at Goghavadar where there will also be a night meeting.
Last night’s meeting in village Chordi was attended by about 150-200 farmers and maldharis who voiced their distress – from acquisition of their lands, to inadequate water and electricity, lack of farm credit, depletion of grazing and common lands and hence non-viability of cattle rearing, non-remunerative agriculture, lack of jobs outside of agriculture sector… In short, a veritable chakravyuh!!
